The Octaves Tile is a octave shifter using a 5-way switch. The Octaves has a single input “IN” and three outputs. The “IN-V” and “IN+V” output jacks shift the input both down and up by 1V (1 octave) per switch position. When the switch is in the far left position the “IN-V” and “IN+V” jacks pass the input signal unchanged to the the outputs. When the switch is moved to the next position the “IN-V” passes the input shifted down by one volt (one octave down) and the “IN+V” passes the input shifted up by one volt (one octave up). For each additional move the “IN-V” and “IN+V” reduce and add one volt to the input signal (+/- 4 Volts = +/- 4 Octaves). The “V OUT” jack provides the reference voltages 0V to 4V corresponding to the switch position. The Octaves uses precision Op Amps, 0.1% resistors and an Oak Grigsby 5-way switch and will typically maintain accuracy of +/-0.001V.
